Dazed Life: A New Beginning
Dazed Life is the story of a man who never received anything complete in life; whatever he got was always incomplete. This is the story of a man named Vijay. His parents named him Vijay (Victory), but life always handed him defeat. From childhood to youth, he kept fighting against circumstances, and whenever he went through difficult times, no one ever stood by him. Whenever happiness came his way, it too was incomplete. Vijay spent his childhood in extreme poverty. He was not very good at studies either. At home, he was showered with scoldings, and at school, he received plenty of beatings and reprimands from his teachers.
When Vijay was young, he used to think that one day he would become a great and successful man and live life on his own terms. To tell the truth, he used to dream even with his eyes wide open during the day. Vijay would say that dreams are not the ones we see at night, but the ones that do not let us sleep even at night.
As a child, Vijay had dreamed of becoming a doctor. His father wanted the same. But perhaps fate had something else in store for him. Since childhood, Vijay had been fond of writing poetry. He wrote his first poem when he was in the fifth grade and recited it from the stage during the school morning assembly in front of all the students and teachers. Everyone praised him greatly after hearing it. For the first time, Vijay experienced a major success. Later, he participated in a poetry recitation competition at school and secured second place. Gradually, he moved up through the classes. However, he was very weak in mathematics and failed every year.
With great difficulty, he managed to merely pass the tenth grade. While his friends were celebrating their success, Vijay was not particularly happy with his results. He was also severely scolded at home. Overall, his school journey was full of hardships. While everyone else wanted to become doctors or engineers, Vijay only wanted to become a writer. Through his creations, he wanted to bring joy to the world. He was quite good in both Hindi and English, but no one recognized his talent, and with the passage of time, his hope of becoming a writer also faded. Somehow, Vijay completed his schooling and moved to another city for college. And this is where the story of a dazed life truly begins—a life he is still living today, while continuing to strive for a new beginning.
Today is Vijay’s first day at college! When he reaches the college gate, it feels to him as though an entirely new world is standing before him—a world that is very charming and beautiful! This was Vijay’s first step onto the threshold of youth, and he was completely unaware of what the future held. He had left behind his childhood, school, and childhood friends. It was as if this was a new life for him! “For the first time, with the pen of my heart upon the paper of love, I wrote a greeting; I wrote a letter in the name of my beloved.” Perhaps his poetic heart had said these words to itself! As soon as Vijay takes his first step inside the college gate, he bumps into a very charming beauty!
Vijay: Please forgive me. What is your name?
Madhu: My name is Madhu. It’s alright, you didn’t bump into me on purpose, did you? Madhu says shyly.
Vijay smiles softly as well.
Vijay: Which department are you going to?
Madhu: I’m going to the Arts Department. Today is my first day at college!
Vijay: What a coincidence! I’m also heading to the Arts Department, and today is my first day at college too! That means it’s the first day of college for both of us, and we’ve enrolled in the same course!
Both of them moved forward smiling! It was the first time Vijay had gotten a chance to see a girl from so close! His heart was beating fast, and an ocean of love was surging within him! Just assume that, for the first time, life seemed so beautiful to Vijay! Today, he was writing the first page of the book of love! As they walked, he had become so lost in his thoughts that he didn’t even realize when the two of them had reached the department! There, in the office, both of them confirmed their admission, and for the first time, they stood at the door of their classroom! From inside the class came the sounds of young boys and girls laughing loudly! Both Vijay and Madhu felt nervous about going inside the class! They were thinking, “Where have we gotten ourselves stuck, yaar? How are we going to enter the class now?”
Just then, Vikram’s voice came from inside the classroom!
Vikram: “Hey brother, look where this Laila-Majnu pair is coming from. Looks like these two have come here to study love!”
As soon as he said this, the entire class burst into loud laughter, and everyone started laughing! Hearing this, Madhu and Vijay blushed! Just then, Sudha said to Madhu:
“Hey princess, come here and sit with me!”
And then Madhu sat beside Sudha, and Vijay sat with Vikram! After a short while, Professor Sanjeev entered the classroom!
Professor Sanjeev: “How are you all? Today is the first day for all of you at this college! I warmly welcome each one of you to this college and hope that all of you will learn a lot here, achieve something great in life, and surely become successful in your lives!”
After Sanjeev Sir’s lecture, it was lunchtime and all the students headed toward the college canteen! Very quickly, Vikram, Vijay, Madhu, and Sudha had become good friends! As soon as the four of them came into the canteen and sat around a table, Rocky made his entry into the canteen! By the way, let me tell you that Rocky is the only child of a very wealthy father and is extremely spoiled! Rocky’s father is a well-known businessman in the city and holds a lot of influence there! In fact, this college itself is running on the donation money given by Rocky’s father! In the entire college, no one has the courage to speak against Rocky; even the college principal is always busy flattering him! Rocky: “Hey, someone quickly bring me a cold coffee!” Hearing this, even the canteen manager rushed to attend to Rocky!
Just then, Rocky’s eyes fell on Vikram, Vijay, Madhu, and Sudha! And that was enough—the devil inside Rocky woke up! He went and sat with Vikram, Vijay, Madhu, and Sudha along with some of his friends, and that too without their permission! Rocky said to the four of them, “Why are you staring like that! You must be new to this college, that’s why you people don’t know Rocky! Come on, quickly vacate this table and get out of here. How dare you sit at this table! This table is reserved only for Rocky! Don’t know where poor people like you come from! Now get lost from here!” Hearing all this, Vikram and Vijay got angry and moved toward Rocky, but just then Sudha and Madhu stepped forward and stopped them from confronting him. After that, the four of them left the canteen and went toward the garden.
Vikram: Hey Vijay, man, we should have taught Rocky a lesson! Sudha: Vikram, you’re always looking for an excuse to pick a fight! Forget all this! What’s done is done! Vikram: Was this muscular body made to be afraid of people? I can smash Rocky’s face with one hand, got it! Sudha: Vikram, this is exactly what I don’t like about you! You get angry over every little thing! Have you taken a contract to reform society? Madhu: You’re right, Vikram. Rocky has no right to talk to us like that, and we should complain about this to the principal! Vijay: I feel that we’re making too much out of this matter unnecessarily. We should give Rocky one more chance, and besides, today is the first day of college for all of us, so at least today we should avoid complaining about anyone! Sudha: You’re right, Vikram. We should give Rocky one more chance! Oh, what’s this? It’s time for our next class. Hurry up! Come on, friends, let’s all go back to class!
And then it was time for college to end! The four friends said goodbye to each other and walked out through the college gate to head to their respective hostels. And friends, it was a strange coincidence that Madhu and Sudha got the same room, while Vijay and Vikram also got the same room! And thus, the first day of college came to an end, and all four wished each other good night and drifted off into the embrace of sleep!
